This novel Tender is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica presents a picture of dystopia future where some humans are livestock, meant to be eaten and consumed. In this society, cannibalism is normal, human meat is another commodity. The author presents a world where possibly a virus corrupted the meat supplies, so the story goes, and at first an attempt to be vegan was standard, however things change with time. The book focuses on setting a very real set of characters. Perhaps not scary in tone, but in the ideas presented of what could possibly be.
