This is a Covid-19 book. How can I tell? Because it deals with a disease, and the fear and spread, and it was written post Covid The virus spreads in American, and the young Sophie a Catholic girl separated from her twin brother, is full of worry and anxiety. Her life is forever changed as the virus consumes society by making those who are infected act aggressive and hyper sexual. Her goal and focus becomes to re-unite with her brother with no certainty he's even survived. Vivid imagery, and some chopping surreal story telling mirrors the turmoil days of youth and adolescence. the balance of changing from girl to woman and what that means, and being seen now as a possible sexual creature by others.
TW: dog. I cannot stand horror that does anything to the dog.
